My artwork emerges from observation of nature: watching deer play tag, observing horses interact, sketching my husband’s catch. I watch colors change with the seasons. My eyes track the intricate patterns and texture of animals and plant bodies and trace the form of rocks.
I am influenced by the work of both contemporary artists and the masters. My tastes are diverse and eclectic. Caravaggio, Matisse, Asian art, illuminated manuscripts, Norman Rockwell and Walt Disney. Quilts and textiles inform and influence color, pattern and texture. My life as an artist can be somewhat of a solitary existence. I hole up in my studio, giving birth to paintings. I send my works off into the world and most often, never hear about them again. My satisfaction lies in knowing the work brings joy and meaning to others’ lives.
